Directions to Young Ladies How to
Obtain the Husband They Most
Desire.

If a Young Lady fancies one Young Gentleman
more than another, and he seems either to dislike A3v 6
or disregard her, to win his affections and finally to
obtain him for her husband, she must proceed as
follows:

First, ascertain the time of the year of his birthday
comes—if it is in the season of Flowers, procure
some of the sweetest flavour that you can obtain
—divide them into two small bunches, both of
which you must wear in your bosom one day, touching
your naked body—at night put them in any
kind of scented water, with which you have bathed
your face, neck and breasts—the next morning enclose
one of the bunches of the sweetest scent in as
small a package as possible, and write thereon the
young man’s name, which you must so contrive to
convey to him that he shall not know from whom

the young man to accept of a small present
from a female friend, who although unknown to him
regards him more than any other person of her sex
—that although she does not expect that he will
condescend to notice her, yet she hopes that he will
be willing to gratify her wishes, so far, as to wear
the flowers in his bosom a few days. The other
bunch you must continue to wear in your bosom for
three days, every night bathing with the scented
water, with which you must continue to bathe your
face, neck and breasts—at the expiration of the three
days you must pluck the leaves of the flowers and
dry them in the sun, after which you must put them
into a trunk, containing your cloathing, until your A4r 7
cloathes become scented therewith—very soon after,
dressed in some of the cloathes thus scented, you
must contrive to stand or pass within six feet of the
young man, who from that moment (if he has worn
or even smelt of the flowers that you sent him) contracts
that love and regard for you which your presence
will ever after rather tend to increase than to
diminish.

If it is in the fruit season, cherries, or some other
small fruit must be substituted for the flowers, which
must also be worn in the bosom, and scented with
the bathing water, the same as the flowers—after he
commences his visits, you must present him with
the dry leaves, or the fruit, which will increase his
love for you.

If it should be in the winter season, procure if possible,
some dried rose leaves, which retain their
scent, which you must wear, bathe, &c, in the same
manner as you are directed to do with the flowers,
fruit, &c.

Directions to Young Gentlemen
How They May Obtain the Wife
They Most Desire.

If a Young Gentleman fancies one Young Lady
more than another, and she seems to dislike or disregard A4v 8
him, to win her affections, and finally to obtain
her for a wife, he must proceed as follows:

Dissolve six grains of musk in half a pint of water,
with which mix eight or ten drops of the oil of cinnamon
—if the birth day of the Young Lady arrives
in the spring, pluck such flowers as may then be obtained,
which you must wear in your bosom next
your skin for three days, each night washing them
in the musk and cinnamon water, with which you
must as frequently bathe your face, neck, &c. on the
third day divide the flowers into two parcels, one of
which you must seek an opportunity to send the
young Lady, with a few lines enclosed, and let your
proceedings then be similar to the directions which
we have prescribed for the Young Ladies.

Of Dreams.

• Adversity.—

  To dream you are engaged in a dispute
  with a person, shows that you will meet with
  trouble.

• Air.—

  To dream you see the air clear, blue, calm
  and serene, shows that the point you aim at will be
  prosperous; if with thick and dark clouds, you will
  meet with disappointment.

• Angels.—

  if you dream of angels, it is a proof
  that there is one near you, and that the rest B1r 9
  of your dream shall prove true; therefore be mindful
  of it.

• Anger.—

  To dream you see another in a passion
  with you, denotes some very unpleasant circumstances
  that is to happen.

• Ants.—

  When you dream of ants, if you see
  them busy in making their provision, it is a sign
  your industry will be crowned with success; if they
  appear to be injured you may be certain that some
  secret enemy is trying your ruin.

• Apparel.—

  Should you chance to dream that you
  are very genteely drest, and in good company, it
  declares that you will be advanced considerably
  higher in rank than you have been hitherto. If
  your apparel is shabby and much worn, look for
  trouble. if drest in white, success will ensue; if
  black, beware of a quarrel. if you appear in
  blue, you will soon be at some frolic. if green,
  you will shortly go on a journey. if yellowe, you
  will experience something that will make you very
  uneasy, if scarlet is the colour, expect heavy
  losses.

• Apparitions.—

  The greatest and most important
  object of such dreams, as ghosts, apparitions, spectres,
  and such things, is, that they shew the brain
  to be at that time in a state of derangement, and
  the stomach disordered—they shew disappointment
  in a courtship, and that the person you love, hates
  you.

• Armed men.—

  if you are pursued by such, and
  have difficulty in getting away, you will meet
  with trouble.

• Back.—

  if you shew your naked back, you will
  be engaged in some scene of lewdness.

• Bees.—

  if you see bees at work in your dream,
  it signifies that your industry will be prosperous.

• Boat.—

  To dream of sailing in a boat, denotes
  your friends will forsake you.

• Briars.—

  To dream you are scratched with briars
  you will meet with difficulties.

• Bridge.—

  To dream of going over a bridge without
  difficulty, is a sign of prosperity.

• Buying.—

  To dream of buying victuals raw, denotes
  benefit from friends.

• Cards.—

  if you dream you are playing at cards
  it denotes that you will soon be married.

• Cattle.—

• Cat.—

  Should you dream of a cat, you must expect
  trouble.

• Children.—

  To see children in your dream, promises
  riches and happiness in this life.

• Church.—

  To dream you are in a church, you
  will be disappointed in your expectation.

• Climbing.—

  To dream you are ascending a very
  steep place, and find great difficulty, denotes sickness.

• Coach.—

  To dream you are riding in a coach, you
  will get a lucrative employment.

• Coals.—

  Clear burning coals, denotes prosperity, B2r 11
  especially in love, where the affection will be mutual,
  and the union happy.

• Combat.—

  To dream of combating, signifies that
  you have enemies, who will strive to injure you.

• Corn;

  To dream you are gathering ripe corn
  promises success; if blighted or mildewed loss.

• Coffin;

  To dream of black coffin, denotes the
  loss of a friend.

• Darkness;

  To think yourself in the dark is a
  token of affliction and loss of near connexions.

• Death;

  To dream you see a corpse, is a sign
  that you will either be married or assist at a wedding:
  if you dream you are dead yourself, is a
  sign of success in all your undertakings.

• Debt;

  To dream you are in debt, and pursued
  by bailiffs, indicates some difficulty.

• Devil;

  if you see the devil in your dreams without
  fear, you will get the better of your adversary;
  if you are frightened, you will incur some danger.

• Ditches;

  if you stick in dirty ditches, you will
  meet with misfortune.

• Dogs;

  if dogs snarl at you, you will have enemies;
  if they fawn upon you, your lover will seek
  to be reconciled, and will soon marry you.

• Eating;

  To dream you are eating, denotes prosperity.
  

• Eggs;

  To dream of eating them, signifies getting
  children; and breaking them some affront.

• Eyes;

  if you dream you lose your eyes, it denotes
  the loss of some near relatives or friends.

  To dream that your face is swelled, denotes
  increase of wealth, honour and happiness.

• Fall.—

  To dream of falling, signifies that you shall
  fail of your most sanguine expectations.

• Feast.—

  To dream that you are at a feast, denotes
  extraordinary satisfaction.

• Fields.—

  To dream you are crossing ploughed
  fields, it promises misfortune; if green grass appears,
  it denotes prosperity.

• Finger.—

  if you dream you cut your finger, and
  it bleeds, you will get money where you least expect
  it.

• Fire.—

  if you dream of eating fire, you will have
  a connection that will ruin you.

• Fish.—

  To dream you are fishing and catch none,
  you will never be married to the person you court;
  if you catch them, you will be successful in love, &
  enjoy many happy days.

• Flood.—

  To dream of a flood, portends violent oppositions
  from wicked and malicious neighbours.

• Flowers.—

  if you are gathering flowers, you will
  be successful in whatever you undertake; if you are
  walking, sitting or lying upon them, you will be happy
  in love or marriage.

• Fortune.—

  To make a sudden fortune in your
  dream, is a bad omen.

• FruitFruit.—

  The gathering of green fruit denotes sickness;
  ripe, mellow and red, is a token of peace,
  health and prosperity.

• Funeral.—

  A hearse with a relation on, or attending C1r 13
  it, imports that the person so seen will lose
  a near friend; if there is no friend with the funeral,
  you will be married yourself or assist at the
  wedding of some kinsman.

• Garden;

  If you are walking in a beautiful garden
  you will soon be advanced in fortune and dignity.

• Geese;

  To dream of geese, is a sign that an
  absent friend will soon return.

• Gift;

  To dream of receiving a gift, is a token
  of sorrow; to give signifies great cause of joy.

• Glass;

  To dream of glass, denotes inconstancy;
  if you crack it, your lover will forsake you.

• Gold;

  To dream of gold is good; if you are
  receiving it, your affairs will prosper; if paying it
  away you will be respected.

• Grave;

  To dream you see a grave, denotes sickness
  or disappointment; if you go into the grave

  ice, shews that you are pursuing some scheme that
  will elude and subject you to disappointment.

  neighborhood, &c. shews that some person is endeavouring
  to injure you in an unknown manner.

• Old Woman or old Man;

  If you dream you are
  caressed by an old person of the other sex, and
  seem to enjoy pleasure, you will have success in
  your worldly affairs.

• Onions;

  To dream of eating onions, promises
  the discovery of some hidden treasure.

• Oven;

  To see a hot oven, denotes seperation
  from your friends.

• Oysters:

  To dream that you are eating oysters,
  insures that you shall be married to a person that
  is really a virgin, and will love you.

• Path;

  To dream of walking in a good pleasant
  path, it promises success both in business and love.

• Paper;

  To dream of white paper, denotes respect;
  if scribled or printed, you will do some
  mean or unjust action.

  To dream of serpents, signifies private
  enemies.

• Sores.—

  if you dream you are troubled with bad
  sores, you will rise by patronage or legacy.

• Sea.—

  To dream of sheep, denotes respect being
  paid to you.

• Silver.—

  Should you dream of picking up small
  pieces of sliver, foreshews distress for money.

• Soldiers.—

  To see armed soldiers shews you will
  be persecuted.

• Teeth.—

  To dream that your teeth drop out, is a
  token of losing some near relation.

• Treasure.—

  Should you find a treasure in your
  dream, you will be exposed to the treachery of a person
  you confide in.

• Trees.—

  To dream you are cutting down trees,
  forebodes heavy losses in business.

• Walls.—

  To be walking on weak or narrow walls,
  shews that you will undertake some dangerous enterprize;
  if you come down without hurt, or the wall
  falls after you, you will be disappointed.

• Water.—

  To drink water in a dream, signifies adversity;
  but if you throw clear water off your stomach,
  you will lose your place; if the water is dirty,
  you will get rid of some great trouble.

• Wedding.—

  To dream you are at a wedding, portends
  sickness, or the death of a near relation.

• Weight.—

  To dream your limbs are heavy and unwieldy
  when you are pursued, is a sign you will fall
  under some great affliction.

• Wood.—

  if you dream of travelling in the woods
  or of carrying wood, your partner for life, will be of
  a disagreeable temper.

Of Moles.

A mole that stands on the right side of the forehead
or right temple, signifies that the person will
arrive to wealth and honour.

A mole on the right eye brow, foretells speedy
marriage.

A molsmole on either cheek, denotes that the person
will never rise to a great fortune.

A mole on the nose, denotes good luck to attend
that person.

A mole on the chin, foreshews prosperity.

A mole on the throat, denotes that the person will
become rich by marriage.

A mole on any part of the stomach, denotes danger.

A mole on the right arm, promises riches; on the
left, given to quarrel.

A mole on the belly, denotes sloth.

A mold on either hip shews the person will have
many children.
